OEL was founded in 1975 by Mr Heng Pak Ki @ Heng Teik Wang when he first ventured into grocery business in Alor Setar by the name of Chop Eng Lee. In 1980, he ventured into rice wholesale business and later expanded his business as Packing and Wholesale of Rice in 1983 at Mergong II Industrial Area, Alor Setar. OEL Realty Holdings Sdn Bhd was established in 1996 at Alor Setar, Kedah.

1975
Mr Heng Pak Ki @ Heng Teik Wang, the founder of OEL started business with his first grocery store in Alor Setar named

1980
Ong Eng Lee Sdn Bhd was formed as rice wholesaler.
1983
Ong Eng Lee expanded its business and moved into Mergong II Industry area which was 5 times bigger than the old premise built in 1975. In the same year, Bintangtara Sdn Bhd was established.
Penetrated into new market region in Selangor, where the 3rd subsidiary company named Setia Saujana Sdn Bhd was established
1986
Ong Eng Lee Sdn Bhd changed its name to Ong Eng Lee (Trading) Sdn Bhd.
1989
The company expanded its business to Southern Region of the Peninsular Malaysia. The 4th subsidiary company named Perusahaan Kargo Selatan Sdn Bhd was set-up in Johor.
1991
The 5th subsidiary company named Sing Weng Guan Enterprise Sdn Bhd was established in Gopeng, Perak.
1995
Due to strong market demand, Sing Weng Guan Enterprise Sdn Bhd moved to a bigger factory lot located at Menglembu, Perak and started its own packaging line.
In the same year, the 6th subsidiary company named OEL Wawasan Enterprise Sdn Bhd was established at Seberang Perai, Penang.
1996
Ventured into the largest market region of the Peninsular Malaysia by setting up the 7th subsidiary company named Best Field Enterprise Sdn Bhd in Kepong, Kuala Lumpur. It has eventually expanded the group distribution network to Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Terengganu and Pahang.
At the same year, OEL Realty Holdings Sdn Bhd was established.
2002
OEL Realty Holdings Sdn Bhd signed the Memorandum of Understanding with Padiberas Nasional Berhad and became one of the associate Companies of BERNAS.
2003
Sing Weng Guan Enterprise Sdn Bhd moved to a much bigger factory lot located at Lot 56423, Jalan Kuala Kangsar, Perak with total land area of 9.3 acres and equipped with sophisticated rice processing and packaging line. With the new processing line, SWG is able to provide better quality packed rice to consumer and thus strengthen its company brand and image.
On 24th November 2003, Best Field Enterprise Sdn Bhd acquired a piece of industrial land with a total land area of 3.64 acres, located at Rawang Integrated Park.
2005
Best Field Enterprise Sdn Bhd moved into the new factory lot located at Rawang Integrated Park on 26th September 2005.
Bintangtara Sdn Bhd changed its name to OEL Origin (Kedah) Sdn Bhd.
2006
In-line with the company's objective to strengthen its corporate image, OEL group of companies changed its company's name as follows:-
Ong Eng Lee (Trading) Sdn Bhd changed to OEL Distribution (Kedah) Sdn Bhd.
OEL Wawasan Enterprise Sdn Bhd changed to OEL Distribution (Penang) Sdn Bhd.
Sing Weng Guan Enterprise Sdn Bhd changed to OEL Distribution (Perak) Sdn Bhd.
Setia Saujana Sdn Bhd changed to OEL Distribution (Selangor) Sdn Bhd.
Best Field Enterprise Sdn Bhd changed to OEL Distribution (KL) Sdn Bhd.
Perusahaan Kargo Selatan Sdn Bhd changed to OEL Distribution (Johor) Sdn Bhd.
2008
OEL implemented backward diversification strategy by acquiring a rice mill named Kilang Beras Teik Guan Sdn Bhd located at Lot 876, Kampung Kubang Jambu, Mukim Kubang Rotan, 06250 Alor Setar, Kedah to strengthen its supply chain. The sale & purchase agreement was signed by OEL's directors on 17 January 2008.
At the same time, OEL Kedah purchased a piece of land with a total land area of 2.5 acres located at Taman Perindustrian Star City. The acquisition of the land is intended for the company's future business expansion.
2010
OEL Johor purchased a piece of land with a total land area of 3.5 acres located at Taman Teknologi Johor, District of Kulaijaya to construct a new factory warehouse equipped with sophisticated rice processing machineries.
2012
The constructions of new factory warehouse for OEL Kedah and OEL Johor were completed and both companies shifted to the new premise in February 2012 and April 2012.
